Our Impact on the Community

Our harvests cover the whole of Ottawa. We operate in all of city wards, and have donated to food banks in central Ottawa (e.g Shepherds of Good Hope, Centretown Emergency Food Centre, Parkdale Food Centre, Centre 507, Dalhousie Food Cupboard, High Jinx, Minwaashin Lodge), the inner suburbs (e.g. Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School, Debra Dynes Family House, Westboro Region Food Bank), and the outer suburbs (e.g. Kanata Food Cupboard, Orleans-Cumberland Food Bank).

Through our dedication to harvesting local fruits and nuts naturally growing in our city, we prevent waste and share the harvests with people in need in our community. These actions contribute to the well-being of our volunteers and our community by enabling access to local food.

Here are some comparables over the years of how we have provided our communities with access to fresh, local food.

"Hidden Harvest is an amazing initiative. When people think of food waste they rarely consider the food grown locally in our neighbourhood and how it can be used to feed hundreds of people. Not only does this project help feed people but it offers opportunities for connection to one’s community and it's natural resources." - Harvester Volunteer
“I was able to participate in a sea buckthorn harvest event. I dehydrated half of the sea buckthorns that I was able to bring home. I munch on a pinch every morning and every evening and I have had a very healthy Sept & Oct and haven’t had a cold once!" - Harvester Volunteer
“We really appreciate the help of Hidden Harvest every year to pick our apples, crab apples, pears and elderberries. We would waste so much if you could not help us. THANK YOU FROM THE HEART!” -Tree Owner Volunteer
“Last year I helped pick apples (first time with Hidden Harvest) and brought some to the school where I teach. I was thrilled with how the students helped themselves to the fresh apples”. - Harvester Volunteer
“I have a very prolific grape vine that we have shared with HH for many years now. We would not dream of letting the grapes go to waste. The last couple of years, we donate all the shares picked by HH, as we haven't had time to process them. It is an amazing organization!” - Tree Owner Volunteer
